fall

been very bad with posting new entries but lets see...

in an attempt to greet fall with my arms wiiiiide open, instead of the usual groaning about how short nyc falls are and how quickly winter is approaching, i decided to change my hair color. in my stylist's words "you need some autumn colors!"

4 hours later, i've not got red hair. its not so bad, i suppose, im still trying to get used to it, and trying to not be too paranoid about how green my skin may look. see, i love change. but at the same time, im extraordinarily afraid of it. my stylist was so surprised when i told her this because i've never been the client who comes back for routine touchups -- i come in for full-blown change. and she's seen me go from streaky orange mess to dark chocolate brown to medium brown with highlights to dark caramel blonde. i cant help it. im still young and i'd like to take advantage of doing all this crazy stuff to my hair before i get too old and crazy hair makes me look weird.

but back to colors and fall and whatnot. this new color makes me want to explore my romantic side. im excited to see that its already starting to influence the way i dress.

currently:

am obsessed with all things "modern-vintage"
fav. necklace - "this old thing?" hanger necklace
am wearing - vintage gold slip, white lace minidress, and silver sequin belt

the hair

the new "old" clothes

favorite necklace by This Old Thing?
if anyone is around brooklyn, check out Alter, thats where i got the necklace... great shop that is perfectly in tune with my "modern vintage" mood. they carry vintage reconstructed clothing along with a great selection of vintage shoes and boots.

we interrupt this channel for a special announcement....

PREEN FOR TOPSHOP IS HERE!!! i mean... here!!

i didnt get a chance to blog about the whisperings before the debut, but i just love preen. i love how modern the designs look and how that modernity can be achieved by being minimal yet very detailed as well, the details usually achieved with tucks, cording, and very precise drapes. the clothing really takes on a special sculptural quality and perhaps the clothes end up looking detailed but still modern and minimal because they're usually very monochromatic.

unfortunately, i missed the first preen/topshop collaboration earlier this year, and only discovered them after venturing into Seven New York on Mercer. i bought my first item by Preen that day -- black knee length shorts with bubble-like pleats at the hips -- really, the only thing i could afford from their line. their droolworthy dresses were around $1000. and i was surprised that their topshop collaboration that season was very much in tune with their main line... also greatly disappointed that i had missed out.

and so when i heard they were doing another collaboration for fall... i stalked that site like a hawk! and here are some comparisons:

Preen/Topshop

Preen f/w 2007

as you can see, many of the same concepts are expressed in the topshop line as well -- the drapey hoods on the dresses, the detailing on the sleeves, the cocoon like jackets, and the one-shouldered top.
this is what designer/store collaborations ought to be like. (relatively) more affordable yet still containing the same conceptual ideas.

modern mary jane

hello all! sorry for the lack of posts, but i wanted to start off by saying.. thanks so much to everyone who left me such great comments on my post about the Prada Sample Sale. i really wish some of you guys could have come with me, seriously, because it gets lonely going to all these sales by myself! unfortunately, most of my close friends here are not as interested in fashion as i am and probably think im a crazy fanatic for chasing sample sales and various items of clothing around nyc.

and speaking of various items around nyc... i am in lust with these Prada heels, and apparently, so are many women who attended fashion week here.

there were satin ones

the grey/black ombre ones

and the nude/black ombre ones

i love the whole foot-less socks/tights and sandals combination, a great way to show off a pedicure in the fall... and before the snow hits.

i shall start a F/W 2007 wishlist:

1- Prada mary-jane sandals (would be nice to have a big block of money fall next to me right now)
2- Prada foot-less knee highs (susie looks great in hers!)
3- various winter dresses, think short, wool fabrics with sleeves.. i guess that would really be #3, 4, 5...and 6.
